There’s not enough financial fair play right now

Barcelona have reportedly hit a problem when it comes to renewing Inigo Martinez’s contract for another year.

Martinez has had a great season this time around, partnering Pau Cubarsi in the heart of the defence, and is set to be handed a new one-year extension.

Indeed the defender has a clause that means his contract will automatically renew if he plays 45 minutes in 60 per cent of Barca’s games this season.

Yet it’s not as straightforward as all that, according to Marca, who report that Barca don’t have enough financial fair play to extend Inigo’s contract right now.

Barca have been busy tying up key players on long-term deals this winter, as Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi have all signed long-term extensions.

However, it seems that Barca now don’t have the fair play for Martinez, with the report claiming they are talking to La Liga to find a solution and the defender must wait for news.
