Barca scout hails Toni Fernandez and says he’s looking for ‘new Lamine Yamals’

The Catalans want more young talent
Roberto Mancini’s son Andrea has been working in Barcelona’s scouting department this season and admits he’s looking for “new Lamine Yamals.”
The coach has also told Gazzetta dello Sport that Barcelona’s aim is to try and get several La Masia graduates into the first team every year.
“I made a big jump, but things are going well. I am looking for new Lamine Yamals,” he explained.
“The club’s challenge is to get at least 4 or 5 children from La Masia into the first team every year. And the challenge is met every year.
“Look at Yamal, it’s easy to say, but he’s been here for three years now. He will become stronger than everyone, even Messi.”
One player who is being tipped to be the next to make the breakthrough is Toni Fernandez. He’s already made his debut for Hansi Flick’s side and Mancini is a big admirer.
“Among the boys who are now making their way into the first team, if I had to name one I would say Toni Fernández,” he said.
“He is 16 years old, he has already made his debut and he has everything to be a champion.”
Fernandez has just been promoted to Barcelona Atletic and handed a new squad number, and it’s hoped it may not be long before he’s pushing for more first-team chances.
