Spain boss talks leaving Gavi out, recalling Inigo & Yamal advice

Here’s what the boss has had to say
Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has held a press conference to discuss his latest squad for two Nations League games against the Netherlands.
There are seven Barcelona players named in the squad but no room for Gavi following his return from a serious knee injury sustained on international duty.
Here’s what the Spain boss had to say:
“I’m left with the joy of having 27 super-selected players. That Baena, Pedri, Olmo... are there, and if they hadn’t been there, they would have been strange too,” he said,
“There are more players who could be there than those who are. Gavi demonstrates the strength of Spanish football, as does Isco.
“Unfortunately, they are not there, but they are there. They will have the opportunity if we need them. This list is the best that can be made.”
De la Fuente also spoke about handing Inigo Martinez a recall after a strong season for the veteran in the Barcelona defence.
“Íñigo has never been out of our plans,” he added.
“This is a great team. Now is an opportune time for him to be with us; he’s doing very well. We need him in our game plan. We’re going to enjoy him for as long as we can.”
There was also time for a little bit of advice for Lamine Yamal as well as praise for Pedri who heads in the match in red-hot form.
“Lamine is still developing. We ask him to continue enjoying football. He has to keep developing. The first ones who will criticize him when he doesn’t score a goal will be you. He needs time for that,” he said.
“Pedri is at a stage of maturity, interpreting the game very well. He brings us a lot of versatility. He’s one of those players who we can say is the best in his position.”
The players are due to meet up after Sunday’s La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid.
