César Soto Grado was expected to take charge....

Former referee Mateu Lahoz has been talking about the Copa del Rey final after Barcelona booked their spot in the showpiece event against Real Madrid.

César Soto Grado had been expected to take charge of the game at the Estadio de La Cartuja on April 26 but it seems there may be a change of plan.

“Before February, the final was already decided for César Soto Grado, but it seems that in some recent meetings he has said things that in this case the president of the CTA, Luis Medina Cantalejo, does not like,” he told Cope’s Tiempo de Juego.

“And it seems that now Luis is betting on Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea. It seems that those are the latest rumors and that is why some media outlets assumed it was going to be Soto Grado, because if you look at the designations he was there, but now the name of De Burgos Bengoetxea has appeared.”

Barca won’t be too unhappy if Soto Grado does not take charge of the game as he has been involved in many controversial incidents throughout his career.

He was also famously in charge of the Clasico in April 2024, when Lamine Yamal saw a goal disallowed in a 3-2 defeat, in a decision that left the Catalans raging.
