Barcelona strip Marc-Andre ter Stegen of captaincy and announce club’s new skipper

Barcelona have issued a statement to confirm that Marc-Andre ter Stegen is no longer the club’s captain and that Ronald Araujo has taken over his duties.
The Catalan giants have also announced that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against their goalkeeper in an official statement.
Here’s what Barcelona have said:
“FC Barcelona informs that, following the disciplinary proceedings opened against the player Marc-André ter Stegen, and until this procedure is definitively resolved, the Club, in agreement with the Sports Management and the technical staff, has decided to temporarily remove him from the captaincy of the first football team.
“During this period, the duties of first captain will be assumed by the current second captain, player Ronald Araujo.”
This follows on from speculation yesterday that Ter Stegen would lose the armband after refusing to sign a medical report following surgery on a back issue that will keep him sidelined for months.
Barcelona have now made their anger at the goalkeeper quite clear in a move which means relations between the two have hit an all-time low.
