Frenkie de Jong signs new Barcelona contract until 2029 with increased release clause

Barcelona have confirmed that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong has officially signed a new contract extension at the club that runs until 2029.

The new deal has been in the works for a little while but has now been completed which ensures the Netherlands international’s future at the club is locked down.

Here’s the club’s official statement:

“The midfielder Frenkie de Jong has extended his deal with FC Barcelona until 2029 as on Wednesday the Dutchman signed his new contact alongside president Joan Laporta in the Club’s head offices.

“De Jong visited the Club offices following the day’s training session to put pen to paper in front of FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafael Yuste, board member Joan Soler, director of the Football Area, Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”, football coordinator, Bojan Krkic, and the rest of the members of the Sporting Commission.”

The Dutchman’s new contract also reportedly includes a release clause that has risen to €500 million.

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax all the way back in 2019, meaning his new contract will take him to a decade with the Catalan giants.

The Dutchman has previously said that Barca are the club of his dreams and he’s so far won La Liga and the Copa del Rey twice as well as the Spanish Super Cup during his time at the club.
