Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been left out of Germany’s squad for World Cup 2026 which has been announced by manager Julian Nagelsmann.

The decision is another blow to the goalkeeper but is not a big surprise. Ter Stegen moved to Girona on loan in January in a bid to play regularly but then suffered a hamstring injury that required surgery.

Ter Stegen is yet to return to action following his operation and has therefore been left out of Germany’s squad. Nagelsmann has gone with Oliver Maumann, Manuel Neuer and Alexander Nubel as his three goalkeepers for the tournament.

The decision comes amid uncertainty over Ter Stegen’s future. Barcelona are reportedly eager to get the stopper off the wage bill as he doesn’t look to be part of the club’s plans.

Joan Garcia is Barca’s undisputed No. 1, with Wojciech Szczęsny acting as his back-up. Barca have also have Diego Kochen coming through the ranks, while Inaki Pena and Áron Yaakobishvili are both due back from loans in the summer.
