Barcelona plan to spend €100m on a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski
Barcelona’s hunt for a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski is gaining ground following the end of the season in Spain.
A new update from AS states that Barca see signing a new No. 9 as the “absolutely priority” for the summer transfer window and are hopeful they can spend big.
Lewandowski’s exit has freed up space on the wage bill and Barca are hoping to be able to return to the 1:1 rule in time for the summer window.
The report adds that Barca now plan to “spend slightly more than 100 million euros on reinforcements” and “have decided that the bulk of the investment will be for the number 9 position.”
Barca had been going for a defender as well but have cooled interest in Alessandro Bastoni and may not now bolster their backline due to the emergence of Gerard Martin and Andreas Christensen’s return to fitness.
Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro are currently the top two targets, although current speculation claims that Atletico want €150 million for the Argentina star.
