Marc Cucurella says there was “no interest from Barcelona” in his services after making a surprise move from Chelsea to Real Madrid.

The left-back came through the Barca academy but has now signed a six-year deal with Los Blancos.

Ahead of the transfer, there were rumors of interest from Barcelona and Atletico and Cucurella has now set the record straight.

“No interest from Barcelona, but Atletico yes. Barca told me they wanted to sign a left-back, but that was it, it stayed at that,” he told Radioestadio Noche.

“There was nothing more to it, really. I think they’re focused on signing a striker, but I haven’t heard anything. In the end, there’s a world of difference between that and it actually happening, there’s nothing more to it than that.

Cucurella is currently on international duty with eight Barcelona players in the Spain squad and admitted there was plenty of banter flying about after the deal was confirmed.

“There have been a few jokes, now we’ll be rivals. But it’s all in good fun,” he said. “We’re very happy here now and we have the same goal.”

Cucurella has already been warned by Dani Olmo that he’s “going to suffer” next season when he comes up against Lamine Yamal in El Clasico.
