Barcelona didn’t take chances against Celta, says Valverde

But the coach was still happy with his team

Ernesto Valverde said Barcelona did not take their chances after a 1-1 Copa del Rey draw with Celta Vigo.

Jose Arnaiz opened the scoring but Barca were pegged back when Sisto smashed home the equaliser.

Sergio Busquets hit the crossbar, Denis Suarez missed a sitter and Sergi Roberto also hit the post as Barca were held, but Valverde wasn’t too disappointed.

“Celta will come to Camp Nou to play, there is no favourite. Everything is to play for. We know their potential, we’re wary of them,” he said.

“It was a hard-fought match, with a good rhythm from the off. Celta pressed high and took risks, they were dangerous on the counter-attack, but so were we.

”[In the second half], they dropped off and we advanced. In the first 20 minutes after the break we could have took the game, but we didn’t take our chances. But even so, I am happy with the team’s performance.”

Barca face Levante on Sunday and Valverde will surely ring the changes before the second leg against Celta at Camp Nou next Thursday.
