Inter confirm interest in Barcelona’s Gerard Deulofeu

Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio has said the club are keeping tabs on Gerard Deulofeu but are yet to make Barcelona an offer for the winger.

Deulofeu returned to Barca in the summer but has struggled to make much of an impression and his last appearance was way back in November.

Inter are just one of several Serie A clubs linked with a move and Deulofeu could be tempted back to Italy having spent last season at AC Milan.

Inter say they are interested in Deulofeu but he’s not the only player they could move for.

“There have been no formal offers for Deulofeu, but we are paying attention to the situation.

“If there are the conditions to try something, we know the characteristics we are looking for. Deulofeu could be the right profile, but he isn’t the only one.”

Deulofeu struggled to even make the squad before Christmas and the return to fitness of Ousmane Dembele may hurt his chances further.

It’s also not entirely clear if Barcelona can sell Deulofeu yet. Speaking in 2015 then-Everton manager Roberto Martinez suggested that if Barcelona exercised their buy-back clause they can’t sell him for a season.

It remains to be seen if that remains the case, but if so, it would suggest Deulofeu could only leave on loan in January.
