Messi’s father talks Barcelona contract and Catalan independence
Lionel Messi’s father Jorge has responded to a recent report that the Barcelona star could leave the club in the case of Catalan independence.
El Mundo have published a report suggesting Messi could walk away for free, despite his €700 million release clause, if Barca were affected by independence.
However, Jorge Messi says that Messi will stay at the club as long as the club are playing in a “top league.”
“All that has been said is not true,” he said.
”There is an agreement that Lionel will remain at the club as long as they are playing in a top league.
”If Catalonia gets independence then Lionel would remain as long as they were in a competitive league.”
