Denis reportedly turned down Chelsea move
Maurizio Sarri seems to be a big fan
The Premier League transfer window may have closed but that has not stopped rumours continuing to fly about.
According to Helena Condis at Cope, Chelsea tried to land Denis Suarez this summer but failed because the midfielder wanted to remain at the Camp Nou.
New Blues boss Maurizio Sarri apparently wanted Denis when he was Napoli manager and tried to sign him again this summer after he’d moved to Stamford Bridge.
Yet Denis, as he said many times last season, turned Chelsea down as he is desperate to be a success at Barcelona.
The 24-year-old may also have been concerned with how much game time he would see at Stamford Bridge. The club have plenty of quality in midfield and brought in Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic over the summer.
Denis also faces a battle to force his way into Ernesto Valverde’s team. He made 18 La Liga appearances last season but has seen Arthur, Arturo Vidal and Malcom brought in over the summer.
