Manu Ginóbili: For Messi to Compare Himself to Me is an Injustice to Himself

The NBA star said Messi was the best in the world, while he was just “one more.”

NBA and Argentina basketball legend Manu Ginóbili has replied to praise from his compatriot, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi. According to Diario MARCA, Messi had previously said, “it makes me very proud to hear a journalist say that Manu is the Messi of basketball, in fact, they should say that I am the Manu of football.”

Ginóbili, a four-time NBA champion. was given a chance to respond to this praise following his retirement.

“He’s being kind to a veteran who is leaving,” the NBA champion and Olympic Gold Medal winner said. “Obviously, the injustice of that comment goes without saying. He is the best in the world. I am just one more in world of the NBA, it’s not even close.”

The former San Antonio Spurs star said that he is admired by a lot of Argentines because he came from a country “that didn’t have a tradition of basketball players with a certain level of success, so sometimes [the comparison] is mentioned.”

He contrasted that with saying that “In Messi. we are talking about one of the best in history, not just in the world right now.”
