Copa del Rey: Malcom’s Time to Prove Himself
The Barcelona winger has not played much but he can start making his case soon
Malcom has not played much this season, to say the least. The winger was Barcelona’s most expensive transfer in this past summer, but he’s only logged 25 minutes in La Liga so far, even with Lionel Messi’s injury.
With even Ousmane Dembélé struggling for playing time, how does his understudy fit into Ernesto Valverde’s system?
The Brazilian will get a good chance to make his case as he’s expected to start tomorrow against Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa in the Copa del Rey.
The third-tier side are not expected to be a huge challenge but the winger should make sure he’s at his best as he makes the case to Valverde that he deserves more minutes. Several other players, including B-teamers, will be trying to make the same impression.
Malcom was wrestled from AS Roma at the last second in the summer transfer window. His mother even boarded the flight to Rome in anticipation of his signing with the capital club, but instead, he changed his mind at the last minute to join up with Barça. The Brazilian took a chance by going to a club in which he would be given more competition for playing time. His ambition has yet to pay off, but fans know he has the potential to be an electrifying player for years to come. They will be anxious for him to put a stamp on an official match for the first time in a Barcelona shirt.
