Barcelona scout meets with Neymar’s entourage as PSG star attempts La Liga return - report

Is Neymar plotting a sensational - and controversial - homecoming?

Neymar’s entourage met with Barcelona scout André Cury before Christmas, Catalunya Ràdio reports. Earlier rumors in the Catalan press have repeatedly insisted the Paris Saint-Germain star is desperate to get a move back to Catalonia, but now, we are hearing of a direct meeting between the two parties that could prove pivotal.

Cury, an important figure in Barcelona’s Brazilian operations, reportedly met with Pini Zahavi, an agent who facilitated Neymar’s move to PSG, and Álvaro Costa, an intimate friend of the star and a go-between for Barcelona and Nike.

This would be the first face-to-face meeting in a hypothetical Neymar homecoming. The fact that Cury reporetedly met with Neymar’s entourage, and did not go through an intermediary, should not be missed. There could be something serious brewing.

Neymar left Barcelona in a move that shocked the world and broke the transfer record, but reports suggest that he now sees that switch as a mistake. The Parisian club is said to be pressured by FIFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, which could force them to sell a star to make the books add up.

A recent survey by Mundo Deportivo revealed Barça socis are not keen on paying for the return of the prodigal son, as it were. However, opinions can change quickly. Would Barça offload a star to accommodate the return of Neymar, a player who once spurned them in an acrimonious exit? Or will they rebuff one of the greatest players in the world, one that has had success at the club already and already has friendships with the players and staff?
