Barcelona striker search targets Jović, Dolberg, Werner, Gómez, Piątek - report

The Catalans are in the hunt for Luis Suárez’s long-term replacement

FC Barcelona continue their search for a young striker to eventually replace Luis Suárez. This week, we are hearing about a list of young forwards the team is keeping tabs on for the near future. According to Mundo Deportivo’s Francesc Aguilar, Luka Jović, Kasper Dolberg, Timo Werner, Maxi Gómez, and Krzysztof Piątek are on the short list for Barça.

Of them, perhaps it is Jović, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, who heads the list.

“If it depended on the technical reports and Barça’s scouting,” Aguilar writes, “Jović would be the nine to recruit. The young Serbian international, who came from Red Star and who stood out for Benfica, produces enthusiasm in everyone.”

Reportedly, Barcelona has been scouting him for a long time and “all reports from those who have seen him are excellent.”

Aguilar says Jović is ahead of Werner (RB Leipzig) and Dolberg (Ajax) due to his versatility, speed, shooting, and goalscoring capacity. Although the writer recognizes that Gómez (Celta Vigo) has one thing on Jović - his workrate, which has been likened to that of his compatriot Suárez.

Piątek (Genoa) has been considered as well, but the report says that his high cost could be against him. Also, his style of play has been said to be a poor fit for Barcelona, despite his great goalscoring ability, which has been compared to that of Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich.)
