Munir frozen out of the team over contract dispute - report

Munir is said to already have a deal to join Sevilla

Munir could have already kicked his last ball as an FC Barcelona player. Reports suggest the young striker already has an agreement in place to join Sevilla in the summer, rebuffing a contract renewal with Barça. And now we are hearing that coach Ernesto Valverde may freeze Munir out of the team as a consequence.

The La Masia product was recalled from loan last summer and was given the job of Luis Suárez’s backup over Paco Alcácer. While Paco has left to score loads of goals for Borussia Dortmund, Munir has mainly languished on the bench for Barcelona this season. Perhaps wanting a guarantee of playing time, and seeing what Paco has accomplished after leaving Barcelona, Munir has reportedly chosen Sevilla as his new club. Also, he’s due to receive a huge bonus from the team that picks him up on a free transfer.

But it seems that Munir’s move has upset Valverde.

“Valverde has told Munir that he will prioritize players that want to play for Barcelona more because the technical secretary told the coach that he would not renew,” Oriol Domenech reported on Catalunya Ràdio.

Munir has not been called up since this alleged meeting took place.

Albert Rogé of Diario SPORT put it thusly: “The era of Munir at Barça is over. To the stands until June, when his contract is up and he leaves for free. Valverde has already made it clear.”

We will see whether Munir is fully frozen out of the team or whether he is simply not given as many chances to play due to the contract situation. In any case, it seems Barcelona are not OK with Munir’s choice.
