Valverde explains what’s impressed him most about Messi

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has been talking about Lionel Messi and the Barcelona skipper’s best qualities.

Messi ended 2018 as the top assister and scorer in Europe’s top five leagues, and it would be no surprise to find him top of the standings at the end of 2019 too.

Yet Valverde has pointed to Messi’s mental strength and competitiveness as two of his biggest assets.

“What I’d most highlight about Leo Messi is his huge sense of responsibility for the team. It shows in every game in every competition.”
