Frenkie de Jong injured for Ajax

The future arrival is out today

Frenkie de Jong will not take part in Ajax’s match today against PEC Zwolle due to a thigh injury. He has been struggling with pain in his leg for a while now and was a doubt in Ajax’s eventual 4-1 triumph over Real Madrid last week. He played anyways, but the club’s medical staff has apparently advised against him playing today.

With a win, Ajax could put themselves within two points of PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie. Ajax also have a better goal difference than PSV. Having been ruled out for today’s match, De Jong is also a doubt for the upcoming game against AZ Alkmaar.

FC Barcelona have officially announced that De Jong would join them next summer after a protracted transfer saga. Rumors abound that the Catalans are extremely interested in bringing his Ajax and Netherlands teammate Matthijs de Ligt along as well.

De Jong is 21 years old and is recognized as one of the world’s best emerging talents.
