Final battle for De Ligt as Koeman tells reporters his future is a “secret”

Barcelona, Juventus, United, PSG, and Liverpool are in the competition

“I spoke with Matthijs de Ligt about his future a week ago, but it’s a secret.” That’s all Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman could tell reporters as his defender is the subject of intense speculation.

According to a report from Diario SPORT, there are five teams in the running to secure the Ajax man’s transfer: Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool.

His agent, Mino Raiola, has overseen an auction with those five bidding for his client’s services.

United are said to be out of the running because they are not considered to be of the required level to win the UEFA Champions League soon. Juventus are also another team that can be counted out, according to rumor.

That means three teams are the most probable destinations: Barcelona, PSG, and Liverpool. But the report says Raiola only wants him to go to either PSG or Liverpool, because they are offering the most money.

De Ligt wants to join his friend and Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona, that much is known, but it is said that he is more open to looking at other possibilities in the auction.
