Barca interested in Ianis Hagi, says Gica Popescu
But he has played down talk of a move to the Camp Nou
Viitorul Constanta chairman and former Barcelona captain Gica Popescu has confirmed that the Spanish giants are interested in Gheorghe Hagi’s son Ianis Hagi.
The 20-year-old played a starring role for Romania over the summer at the Under-21 European Championship and helped his team make it to the semi-finals.
His performances have reportedly sparked interest in the youngster from several clubs across Europe, although Popescu played down talk of a move to the Camp Nou.
“There’s interest from Barcelona, too. There have been discussions, but the project from Barcelona doesn’t interest us because they would take Ianis on loan. Ianis has reached an important level, given many good teams are interested.”
“I think Ianis can play in any league. I think he can still mature, but he will grow in the next two to three years. He was really good at the Euros. There have been negotiations with clubs but the player is on holiday now. He will analyse the offers and choose the right moment.”

Barcelona had been linked with signing the youngster for a fee in the region of €7-8 million and then sending him out on loan to gain first-team experience, but it seems that the midfielder is not interested in that kind of an arrangement.
