The champions have problems in defence

Barcelona take on Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday in their final fixture before the second international break of the new campaign.

Ernesto Valverde’s side will be missing some key players due to injury and suspension, so let’s have a look at who may feature against Julen Lopetegui’s men.

Defence

Clement Lenglet is suspended for this clash, while Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and Jordi Alba are all injured and not expected back in time for the game.

All of which means the defence virtually picks itself. Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo will continue on the flanks, while Gerard Pique and Jean-Clair Todibo will start in central defence.

Midfield

Ernesto Valverde has decisions to make over his midfield where Arturo Vidal will be hoping he has done enough to play his way into the starting XI

The Chilean played a key role for the club after replacing Sergio Busquets in midweek in the Champions League but is yet to start for Barca this season.

Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Arthur have emerged as Valverde’s favoured midfield trio, while Ivan Rakitic and Carles Alena have barely had a look-in.

Attack

Barcelona’s injury problems in attack are easing with Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele back to full fitness, although Ansu Fati remains on the sidelines.

Messi and Luis Suarez look the players most likely to be in the starting XI, with Dembele vying with Antoine Griezmann for the final spot in the attack.

Possible XI: Ter Stegen; Roberto, Pique, Todibo, Semedo; De Jong, Busquets, Arthur; Messi, Suarez, Griezmann.
