The Barcelona captain picked up a sixth Ballon d’Or this week

Whenever I look at Lionel Messi, it’s as if I am seeing him for the very first time. It’s as if I’m looking at that young timid boy whose face is covered by his long hair and who only cares about having the ball at his feet. I see that tiny kid who went against all the odds and became the greatest player to ever grace this game. He might be 32 years old, but what I see is a young 16-year-old who is hungry to conquer the world, who never falls down and who always fights until the very end.

That little boy, that I still see every time my eyes fall on Messi, the player, who has given the world of football eternal smiles and memories that will last a lifetime, broke yet another record on Monday. The Argentinian won his sixth Ballon d’Or, a feat never achieved before. But for Messi, it’s not about the prize, nor the recognition, it’s about the football. Nothing else matters. Messi is football and football is Messi.

Congratulations Leo, you will forever amaze the world with your undying talent.
