Barcelona close to signing Matheus Fernandes - report

The midfielder could be on his way to the Camp Nou

Barcelona are reportedly close to signing 21-year-old midfielder Matheus Fernandes from Palmeiras.

Globo Esporte are reporting that a deal is close and could cost up to €11 million. The Spanish champions will pay an in initial €7m with the rest as variables.

Barcelona have already had a bid of €6m turned down but it seems they may land the youngster by upping their price.

The transfer is also being reported by Fox Sports and ESPN, and the defensive midfielder has reporedly already said goodbye to his team-mates.

Fernandes has reportedly been watched for Barcelona for some two years now and should seal a move to the Camp Nou some time this week.

Barcelona hardly lack for midfield options so it will be interesting to see where Fernandes does fit in if he does arrive.
