Ter Stegen talks Barca back passes after Getafe win
There were a few whistles at the Camp Nou on Saturday
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been talking about Quique Setien’s tactics in the 2-1 win over Getafe on Saturday.
The game saw centre-backs Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique taking the goal kicks in an attempt to break the visitors’ high press.
The tactic saw Ter Stegen record 69 attempted passes, his most in a Barcelona shirt, but brought whistles from the Camp Nou crowd at times during the match.
Ter Stegen talked about the amount of back passes and urged patience from supporters.
“On goal-kicks the centre backs sometimes start the play to avoid pressure from opponents from the first pass,” he said.
”We’re always looking for new ideas to be stronger and complicate things for the opposition.
“There are fans that aren’t content with these back passes but I think they are necessary to start to build from deep, to be patient, more so against teams that press high up. It’s a very good solution. Sometimes it goes wrong but you have to understand it.”

Ter Stegen ended up making more passes than any Getafe player during the match, and only Sergio Busquets (122), Samuel Umtiti (81) and Gerard Pique (88) attempted more passes than the Barca goalkeeper.
