On this Day: Messi downs Real Madrid with 500th goal
What can forget this brilliant Clasico win?
Lionel Messi was busy scoring his 500th goal and helping his team to a 3-2 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on this day in 2017.
It was a brilliant game that was capped off with Messi’s sensational stoppage-time goal that sent Barca back to the top of the table in Spain with five games left to play.
Los Blancos went in front through Casemiro but Barca hit back through a lovely Messi goal and an Ivan Rakitic curler to take the lead at the Bernabeu.
There was another twist late on when Sergio Ramos picked up the gazillionth red card of his career for a wild two-footed lunge on Messi.
Barca had the man advantage but were stunned with five minutes of normal time remaining when James Rodriguez struck an equaliser that looked to have earned a point.
Yet Messi was having absolutely none of it and grabbed a memorable winner with the last kick of the game.
The GOAT swept home a great finish and celebrated in style by holding his shirt aloft in front of the Bernabeu.
