Courtois: It wouldn’t be fair if Barcelona were proclaimed champions
The Real Madrid keeper wants to settle it on the pitch
Thibaut Courtois has told Belgian TV that it would not be fair if the season were cut short and Barcelona were crowned champions early.
“It would not be just if Barça were champions because we have drawn against them in one match, and won the other, so we have shown we are better than them,” the Real Madrid goalkeeper said.
“We are only two points behind Barcelona and we can be champions, so it would be bad luck if the season were canceled. If they decided in Spain that Barcelona were then the champions, it would not seem fair to me.
“In Liverpool’s case in England, it would be different, I could understand it because they are however many points above second place.
“I would like to finish the season. There are eleven games left, it’s too soon to decide a champion.”
Real Madrid had leaped into first place thanks to a 1-0 win from a deflected goal by Vinícius, but lost the league lead soon after, when ex-Barcelona winger Cristian Tello finished past Courtois in a 2-1 victory for Real Betis.
La Liga is scheduled to resume, with training set to start soon in a gradual manner.
