Ronaldinho set him up against Albacete

Rewind 15 years to 2005 and you will find that a 17-year-old Lionel Messi was scoring his first official Barcelona goal on 1 May in a 2-0 win over Albacete at the Camp Nou.

The teenager took to the pitch with just three minutes of normal time remaining wearing the No. 30 shirt and did not need long to open his account.

Barca were already leading 1-0 thanks to Samuel Eto’o’s goal and Messi thought he’d scored almost straight away only to see his effort pretty harshly chalked off for offside.

It didn’t really matter though because he did get his goal minutes later after combining again with Ronaldinho.

The Brazilian scooped the ball over the Albacete defence for Messi to lob over goalkeeper Raúl Valbuena and celebrate opening his account for the club.

Manager Frank Rijkaard called it a “beautiful goal” after the game, while Ronaldinho has since said it was a “it was a very special moment” for him to set up Messi.

Messi has gone on to score 627 goals for Barcelona, win 10 La Liga crowns, four European Cups and pick up the Ballon d’Or six times.
