The defender says the players must be well prepared

Gerard Pique has been talking about Barcelona’s return to training and also La Liga president Javier Tebas’ plans for the season to restart next month.

The Barcelona players went back to work on Friday when they began individual training at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Pique says the players are separated so he hasn’t been able to see Lionel Messi, but he has been working out on the same pitch as Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets.

“I saw Messi? I didn’t have any contact with Messi on the pitch, I only spoke to him on my mobile phone. I didn’t see him train either, I just crossed him in the parking lot. All the footballers train on different pitches; I am with Sergi Roberto and Busquets on one pitch, but we are separated.”

The centre-back also told La Liga not to rush the resumption of the competition which was suspended on March 23 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Pique says the players need as much time to train and prepare for games as is possible.

“Start on June 12? But the players have a concern and we don’t want the start of the league to be rushed. We’ve stopped for a long time, unable to even play friendlies. I’d like it to be taken into account that we’re well prepared so that there will be good games. A few more days of training will not be bad for us.”
