The left-back is looking forward to La Liga’s return

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba says captain Lionel Messi is looking hungry in training and feels his enthusiasm is inspiring his team-mates.

The Catalan giants returned to full training on Monday for the first time in months as they prepare for their first game back against Real Mallorca on June 13.

Alba says that Messi and the whole team are feeling refreshed and ready to go.

“I’ve seen the team with a lot of desire,” he said.

“I think we’ve come back very well physically and mentally we’re in a better place than when we left.

“[Messi] is a vital player of us and we should enjoy having him all the time. Seeing Leo with the enthusiasm he’s come back with is contagious for the rest of the group.”

Alba is not the first player to come out and say Barca are in good shape ahead of the return of La Liga.

Messi has said he thinks the break could do his team good, while Clement Lenglet feels the captain and Antoine Griezmann have benefited from the rest.

Manager Quique Setien has also said the lay-off has allowed players to “rest mentally and eliminate stress” after a rollercoaster 2019-20 campaign on and off the pitch so far.
