Sassuolo confirm Monchu talks with Barcelona

The youngster is wanted by the Serie A side

Sassuolo general manager Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed reports his club are interested in signing Barcelona B Monchu this summer.

The 20-year-old appears to be in demand with Sassulo one of a number of clubs believed to be interested along with La Liga sides Real Betis, Valencia and Real Sociedad.

Carnevali says talks with Barcelona are ongoing but stressed a deal is not close at the moment.

“He is a young boy and we are talking with Barcelona, it is something we already did last season. We have a good relationship with the Catalan club. We are interested, but there is a long way from there to closing the operation. He is young but has all the characteristics to become a great player. ”

It looks increasingly as though Monchu will depart this summer, although it’s not clear if it will be a loan or a deal with a buyback option.
