Diego Simeone is leading the effort to land the Uruguayan

Atlético Madrid, led by manager Diego Simeone, are trying to sign Barcelona striker Luis Suárez, and are willing to offer more money than Juventus to convince him, according to ESPN.

The Italian club has been heavily linked with the Uruguayan forward, but it seems Atléti want to swoop in and prevent Suárez from joining Juve.

It is rumored that Suárez finds Juventus to have a more ambitious sporting project than that of Atlético’s, with a team that has a squad quality of a similar level to that of Barcelona.

Atlético are said to be offering a higher salary to the player, but this would not necessarily give Barcelona any more benefit as it’s likely his contract would be rescinded and he would be allowed to leave on a free transfer. Another advantage they have is the player would not have to change countries. He would also be given more responsibility, as at Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo is the main man. Another possible reason for him to join the colchoneros is that they are said to be in less of a hurry to complete their squad. It is said Andrea Pirlo wants his squad completed as soon as possible, and does not like that Suárez is still resolving how he will exit his current contract.

Currently, Atlético has two main strikers: Diego Costa and Álvaro Morata. It is rumored that Morata could leave, possibly even for Juventus. In fact, it was reported in Spain that Morata had already communicated to his current team that he wanted his contract rescinded so he could go to Juventus, his former club. That would likely seal Suárez’s move to Atlético, should it come to pass.
