Alejandro Balde will be trusted

A new report says that FC Barcelona will once again pass on signing José Luis Gayà, this time opting to give Alejandro Balde a chance to compete with Jordi Alba for the starting left-back spot next season.

Junior Firpo is said to be almost certain to leave at the end of this term. He was signed from Real Betis to compete with Alba but has fallen out of contention, with Ronald Koeman frequently going to Sergiño Dest at left-back over Firpo.

With that in mind, rumors stated that Barcelona would look to the Valencia left-back. Gayà has frequently been linked with a move to a bigger club, but it’s never quite happened. And it seems that once again, it won’t happen - at least not to the Camp Nou.

The club is short on money and is looking to save where it can, especially to fund the capture of a new center-forward. For that reason, it will count on La Masia to help fill out the squad.

Balde has impressed at Barcelona B and the Catalans think he could be ready to be a part of the first team soon. The defender was born in Barcelona to Guinean and Dominican parents. The 17-year-old began at Espanyol but joined Barcelona’s academy before turning 11.

Koeman has found success integrating youngsters into his rotation, players such as Pedri or Ronald Araújo, and the hope is Balde continues this trend.
