Real Madrid are also being linked to the English star

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are working on trying to convince Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund’s superstar, to join them. This “cold war” was in full view yesterday, with both club’s presidents meeting with the player’s agent and father.

But should either Madrid or Barça fail to land Haaland, there may be a consolation prize of sorts. And what a consolation prize it would be. The latest rumor is both La Liga giants are working on signing Tottenham Hotspur and England star Harry Kane as an alternative should they fail to land Haaland.

Madrid have long been linked with Kane, but rumors say he is in fact third on the priority list for los blancos as far as signing a forward, behind Haaland and Kylian Mbappé of Paris Saint-Germain.

Now it seems Barcelona have joined the fray over the Spurs striker. Newly elected club president Joan Laporta may see Kane as a good alternative should the Catalans be priced out of the bidding war over Haaland.

Manchester City and Manchester United are also keen on the England captain. However, it is understood that Spurs will attempt to block any transfer to a Premier League rival.

With links between Madrid and Kane active, but cooling, Barcelona could be moving into pole position to land Kane - at least, should they fail to sign Haaland.

Kane is the English team’s sixth highest goalscorer ever, and the active player with the most goals for England.

Despite all his successes, including being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire, Kane has yet to win a team trophy. That could be a motivating factor for him to leave London, as well.
