Konami ends ties with Antoine Griezmann

The Frenchman has been dropped after a controversial video emerged on social media

Famous Tokyo franchise Konami has broken their contract with Antoine Griezmann and have cut ties with the player, who was previously announced as the ‘Yu-Gi-Oh’ contents ambassador. This is due to the controversial video that has been leaked in the last couple of days in which Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele appear to be mocking Asian people.

In a statement released today, Konami said: “Konami Digital Entertainment believes, as is the philosophy of sports, that discrimination of any kind is unacceptable.

“Previously we had announced Antoine Griezmann as our Yu-Gi-Oh! contents ambassador, however, in light of recent events we’ve decided to cancel the contract.”

In regards with the PES franchise, Konami is also asking Barcelona (club partner) for further explanations and details of the situation. This video has created a lot of controversy in the last few days.

As for Griezmann himself, he released a statement yesterday on Twitter addressing the video, he said: “I’ve always been committed against all forms of discrimination. For the past few days, some people have thought of me as a person I’m not. I firmly deny the accusations that are made against me and I’m sorry if I’ve offended my Japanese friends.”
