Pre-season training starts on Monday

Barcelona confirmed on Sunday that two players have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the start of pre-season training on Monday at the Ciutat Esportiva.

Youngsters Santiago Ramos Mingo and Ilias Akhomach are the duo concerned. The pair are said to be in good health and will now self-isolate at home.

The two players were part of nine Barca B youngsters called up for pre-season with the first team but will miss the start of training which is due to commence on Monday.

Ronald Koeman had called up 11 players from the first-team and 9 Barca B players for the start of pre-season training as he’s without a host of players due to Euro 2020 and the Copa America.

The absentees mean it’s a great opportunity for Barca B players to try and impress the coach ahead of the new La Liga campaign, and the two players will be eager to get back to action as soon as they are able.

Ramos Mingo trained with the first team on occasions last season and has been included in some matchday squads.

Meanwhile, Ilias has already been tipped for a bright future at the club despite only turning 17 in April. Patrick Kluivert has previously likened the youngster to Lionel Messi, and it’s thought he could become the next starlet to make the breakthrough into the first team.
