Koeman ‘very optimistic’ about season despite Messi exit
The coach spoke at the Gamper Trophy
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is feeling “very optimistic” about the new season despite heading into the campaign without captain Lionel Messi.
The Dutchman spoke before Barca’s 3-0 win over Juventus in the Gamper Trophy and explained why he is feeling so upbeat on what was a tough day for the club.
“Despite Leo Messi’s departure, we are very optimistic about the season ahead. We are very pleased with the squad we have, the signings we have made and the young players who are making the step up, who will always form part of the future of this great club,” he said.
“We are sure that we will make you very happy this season. With effort, sacrifice and hard work, we will try to do our very best [for the fans]. We know what it means to support and represent this club. Visca el Barça y visca Catalunya.”
Koeman’s team went on to beat Juventus 3-0 to ensure they head into the first game of the new campaign with some good momentum. There was also another impressive showing from Yusuf Demir who looks like he may stay with the first team.
