The duo have linked up with the squad after the Olympics

Pedri and Eric Garcia were both back in Barcelona training on Thursday as Ronald Koeman’s team continues preparations for their first La Liga game of the season on Sunday against Real Sociedad.

The duo have returned after winning silver with Spain at the Tokyo Olympics. Oscar Mingueza was also part of the squad but has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

There have already been reports that Pedri could play against La Real, despite his hectic schedule, due to injuries to Frenkie de Jong and talented youngster Gavi in pre-season.

De Jong is out with a calf strain which was not thought to be too serious, but it’s still not clear when he will be ready to return to first-team action. Barcelona confirmed on Thursday that he worked out alone “as he continues his recovery programme.”

Garcia could also be part of the matchday squad on Sunday, provided he’s registered in time, as Clement Lenglet is also a doubt for the match after missing the Joan Gamper Trophy match through injury.

Thursday’s session was Garcia’s first at Barcelona since he returned to the club after four years with Premier League champions Manchester City.
