Barca working on new five-year deal for Araujo - report
The Catalans want to secure the defender’s long-term future
Barcelona are reportedly hoping to secure the long-term future of center-back Ronald Araujo and are planning on offering the Uruguayan a new five-year deal.
According to ESPN, the Catalan giants are already working on a contract extension and held talks with the youngster’s agents over the summer.
Araujo’s current contract runs until 2023 but he is one of several players Barcelona see as key to the future of the club and want to renew as a priority. The other two players on the list are Pedri and Ansu Fati.
The report adds that Barca also want to avoid another Ilaix-Moriba type saga and not be left in a situation where they are forced to sell players to avoid losing them on free transfers.
Araujo signed for Barcelona from Boston River in 2018 and looks to have a great future ahead of him at the Camp Nou. Injuries have blighted his progress somewhat but he has started this season strongly and looks set to be a permanent fixture in the backline.
