Koeman insists he has no problem with Riqui Puig
The Dutchman has spoken out about the midfielder
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has been talking about Riqui Puig and has insisted he has nothing against the young midfielder.
Puig has barely featured under the Dutchman, who advised him to go out on loan last season, and is still waiting for his first minutes of the new campaign.
Koeman has been asked if he has “something against” Puig and denied he had a problem with the midfielder but didn’t really explain what he needs to do to earn his trust.
“Not at all! No! We’ve spoken with Riqui many times, in training, analysing what he must improve to get chances,” he said.
“People are looking to play us off against each other but the truth is: I want to win, the players want to win, the club want to win, the fans want to win... and I pick the best teams. If we win, I’m a good coach; if we lose, a disaster. That’s how it is. At least let me take the decisions I think I should take.”

It’s difficult to see it being anything but another frustrating season for Puig at Barcelona even though Miralem Pjanic and Ilaix Moriba have departed. Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are comfortably Koeman’s preferred midfield trio with youngsters Gavi and Nico Gonzalez also now on the scene.
