Pique reacts to Barcelona’s defeat to Bayern
The Catalan giants were beaten 3-0 at the Camp Nou
Gerard Pique offered his thoughts on Barcelona after Tuesday’s demoralizing 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Catalan giants were comprehensively beaten at the Camp Nou thanks to a goal from Thomas Muller and a brace from Robert Lewandowski.
Pique fronted up to reporters after the game and gave his verdict on the game.
“Playing at home, it is a bad result, we are not going to fool ourselves. But if you look at the game, I think that in the first half we have competed, they have gone ahead with a deflected goal.
“In the end I don’t know how many 18-year-olds we had on and the team has competed and has shown their face. Now we are who we are, we are what we are, but I am convinced that as we recover players, we will end up competing.
“We have people like Ansu , like Ousmane , like Kun ... now we are not favorites, but football changes very fast, last season nobody saw Chelsea as favorites.”
Pique also defended teammate Sergi Roberto who was whistled by some sections of the support when he was replaced by Yusuf Demir in the second half.
“The whistles hurt me a lot personally, because I know the person, he is a spectacular human being and he loves this club more than anything,” he added.
“I would like to remind people that he is not a winger. He makes the sacrifice to play in that position. It hurts a lot, people are free to express themselves, but if you ask me it hurts a lot.”

Barcelona don’t play again until Monday but then face a hectic run of fixtures in La Liga, taking on Granada, Cadiz and Levante in a week, before heading to Benfica for Matchday 2 of the Champions League.
