The midfielder could be heading straight back

Barcelona have reportedly already opened talks with Girona about a return for midfielder Oriol Romeu.

The two clubs apparently discussed Romeu at the weekend ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Girona in La Liga, according to Cadena SER.

Romeu only returned to Barcelona in the summer but has already fallen out of favor with Xavi and hasn’t played a single minute in the team’s last three games.

The rumor mill is also convinced that Barca have already decided they want to sign a new pivot, either in January or next summer, suggesting there really is no room for Romeu.

Girona chiefs have already admitted that they’d love to have Romeu back if he is allowed to leave Barcelona.

Romeu has made 17 appearances so far this season in all competitions for Barca, but it seems he hasn’t had the influence Xavi was looking for when he re-signed him.

The midfielder did sign a three-year contract back in July, with a buyout clause set at 400 million euros, but it looks unlikely he will see it out as things stand.
