Barca target Nico Williams handed No. 10 shirt at Athletic

Barcelona target Nico Williams has been handed a new squad number at Athletic Club ahead of the start of the new 2024-25 La Liga season.
Williams has been wearing the No. 11 for the Basque side but will switch to the No. 10 for the new campaign.
The number has been freed up this summer by the departure of Iker Muniain and Williams seems pretty thrilled to be taking it on.
“Very happy to wear Muniain’s number 10 and to make history as he has done,” he told the club’s media.

The move comes amid continued speculation that Barca want to try and sign Nico before the transfer window closes.
The Catalans are said to be confident Williams is interested in moving to Catalunya this summer and are trying to find a way to finance the transfer.
Williams has returned for pre-season with Athletic after winning Euro 2024 with Spain but missed their most recent friendly in Germany against Stuttgart.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are due to open up their La Liga campaign on Thursday against Getafe.
