Tests carried out on Wednesday have shown that the player Marc Bernal has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus. pic.twitter.com/193Fp0zyHI
Bernal’s injury is very similar to the one sustained by Gavi while in Spain duty in November of last year, an injury from which Gavi is still recovering almost 10 months later. Bernal’s recovery should follow a similar timeframe if there are no setbacks, so we very likely won’t see him until next season.
The 17-year-old suffered the injury in the ninth minute of added time during Barça’s win over Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday, and the tests have confirmed what every source from Catalan media after the game had already reported.
All we can do now is wish Bernal a speedy recovery, and hope that Hansi Flick can find a way to make up for his absence until Gavi and Frenkie de Jong return from injury later this fall.
Get well soon, Marc!
