Cubarsi shows yet again that he’s another world class Barca talent

Brilliant at the Bernabeu

Don’t ever let it be forgotten that at just 17 years of age, Pau Cubarsi helped to keep Vini Jr, Jude Bellingham, and PSG all-time top scorer, Kylian Mbappe, goalless at the Santiago Bernabeu - whilst essentially giving all three 40 yards of space to run into for most of the 90 minutes.

His performance was so masterful that he at least deserves to share the headlines with history-making Lamine Yamal, another 17-year-old with the most unbelievable talent.

The discipline involved in not only being able to keep Real’s twin speedsters at bay but also knowing exactly when to step up - understanding that a split second too late and he could leave either with a one on one against Inaki Pena - well, you just have to doff your cap.

He shouldn’t have anywhere close to that nous and know how at such a young age, and it will serve to propel him onwards to even greater heights in the future.

Vincent Kompany, who knows a thing or two about elite level defending, has already given Cubarsi his endorsement.

“He’s one of the future defensive leaders in world football for sure. Not just playing for Barca, but against the level of opposition at his age is very special and very rare,” he said in the pre-match press conference for the Bayern game.

“I was lucky to be able to start my career very young, but not at this level. Not only because he is playing for Barca, but because he is in a team with a lot of quality. If he doesn’t have injuries, he will be a great player.”

As culers have seen time and again, there’s very little that fazes Cubarsi.

Had he been overawed by the sense of occasion given the expected output of Madrid’s front three, most would’ve surely have understood that as completely a normal reaction from a player that isn’t 18 for another three months.

But Cubarsi is made of sterner stuff, and he appears to thrive on any challenge. The bigger they are, the sillier he makes them look.

What’s extra special is his complete lack of ego. Just a no-nonsense attitude from a player that wants to get the job done.

Injuries could play a crucial part in his later career of course, but at this stage Pau Cubarsi is destined for the very top and that can only bode well for Barca.
