The Villarreal boss has shared his thoughts

Villarreal boss Marcelino has been discussing Barcelona under Hansi Flick and why the Catalans look a different team this season.

Barca ran out 5-1 winners at Estadio de la Cerámica back in September and Marcelino says their intensity has gone up a notch or two under Flick.

“It’s a Barça that runs a lot, a lot in total volume and intensity. If you run a lot and you also have very good players, a very specific game plan and you rely on favourable initial results, then it’s normal that you look like a machine,” he told El Larguero.

Yet Marcelino also seemed to have a little dig at Barca fans for enjoying Flick’s style of play.

“What surprises me is that the culés praise this style of play. It seems that there was a gene that was non-negotiable,” he added.

“Now we see that Barça has possession, but it has possession to attack you and kill you, and it attacks you and kills you again and again. It puts pressure on you when you lose the ball, as it did in other times, and is then capable of finishing.”

Flick’s approach has the team top of the table at the moment. He’s also won the Manager of the Month award for August and attracted plenty of praise from Joan Laporta and his players since taking over.
