Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has offered an update on Frenkie de Jong who is set to link up with the Dutch national team this week.

De Jong only managed 45 minutes of Sunday’s defeat to Real Sociedad after coming off with a knock at half-time.

However, he is set to link up with the national team and Koeman thinks he could be fit to play in their next game against Hungary on Saturday.

“Like everyone. I made contact quite quickly. It was soon clear that it wasn’t his ankle, but his shin,” he told reporters.

“Frenkie de Jong is a certainty for selection if he is fit. But he has been out for a long time, he has not played a full match yet. Then you are not at your best yet, but he remains important for us. We have many possibilities in midfield.”

De Jong is yet to complete 90 minutes for Barcelona since making his return from a long-term ankle injury at the start of October.
