The coach is expecting a very tough tie

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was full of praise for his Champions League semi-final opponents Inter Milan in a press conference on Friday, and knows his team is set to face a very difficult challenge as they look to reach their first European Final in a decade.

Flick gave a short answer when asked about the Italian giants and is focusing solely on the domestic commitments ahead in the next two weeks, but was still willing to give plenty of praise for Inter’s squad and manager Simone Inzaghi.

“It’s a fantastic team, with a fantastic coach. It’ll be hard work for us. They have a fantastic striker [Lautaro Martínez], and great defenders. Benji Pavard is a former player of mine, a fantastic professional and I’m happy to see him again in those matches.”

Inter cannot be taken for granted at all. They made the Champions League Final two years ago and could have easily beaten Manchester City (Romelu Lukaku will probably never forget his missed chances that night), and they have the perfect combination of system, experience and resilience to not only cause Barça problems but actually knock them out, especially since they get to play the decisive second leg at home.

But we can worry about that when the time comes. There’s a La Liga title race and Copa del Rey Final at stake in the next couple of weeks, and getting the job done in those will increase morale and confidence even more for a monster European tie.

It’s been a while since the end of Barça’s season has been this exciting, huh?
