The goalkeeper could come back any minute now, and the striker might be out a while

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick offered a big update on club captain Marc-André ter Stegen and spoke about the absence of striker Robert Lewandowski in a press conference on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s La Liga match against Mallorca.

The coach revealed that Ter Stegen is finally ready to make his comeback after missing almost the entire season with a knee injury, but didn’t commit to a set date for the goalkeeper’s return.

As for Lewandowski, who is expected to miss the next three weeks with a hamstring injury, Flick also didn’t set a timetable for his return and say the club won’t rush Lewy’s comeback to ensure he’s fully healthy once he’s ready to play again.

“[On Ter Stegen] He’s ready, prepared. We’ll talk about what we need to do. We’ll decide, talking to him, when it’s time to come back.”

“[On Lewandowski] We don’t know yet how long it will be. When he’s ready, we’ll happily welcome him back. There’s no need to rush it.”

Flick has been very vague when it comes to Ter Stegen’s comeback, especially since his return would mean that Wojciech Szczesny wouldn’t be available to play in Europe, so it remains to be seen if the coach will wait until La Liga is wrapped up to start Ter Stegen in less important matches.

It’s also interesting that Hansi didn’t want to say when Lewandowski is coming back, since he knows from previous experience working with Lewy at Bayern Munich that the Pole is an extremely dedicated professional who usually comes back sooner than expected from injury.

Ferran Torres is expected to fill Lewandowski’s role for the next couple of weeks, but it would certainly not be a bad thing to have the team’s top scorer back as soon as possible.
